PHILANTHROPY & SERVICE

THON

The mission of the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) is to conquer pediatric cancer through outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of The Four Diamonds Fund located at Penn State Children’s Hospital. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, reaching more 15,000 student volunteers across Pennsylvania. THON is year-long fundraising effort that culminates in a 46-hour no sleeping or sitting dance marathon. Over the past seven years, the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta and the brothers of Acacia have come together to form one of the most unique organizations at Penn State. Our organization, which we affectionately refer to as “GammAcacia,” has become a family of over three hundred men and women who provide support to Four Diamonds Families in their fight against pediatric cancer. In 2020, Gamma Phi and Acacia raised $172,335.26 for THON! Together, since partnering, Gamma Phi Beta and Acacia have donated nearly $2 million to the Four Diamonds Fund!

Gamma Phi Beta is dedicated to "Building Strong Girls."

We do this through supporting our philanthropic partner, the non-profit organization, Girls On The Run. Their mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Through this partnership, the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta help girls better themselves and achieve the greatest form of womanhood. To learn more about our non-profit partner and how you can get involved, visit GirlsOnTheRun.org

In addition to our annual philanthropy event, Moonball, our chapter has a service-based program called Crescent Manis. We were honored to win the 2015 Panhellenic Association Community Service Project of the Year award for Crescent Manis at the Greek Column Awards.
